Quarteto Nuevo merges western classical, Eastern European folk, Latin, and jazz with an organic feel that packs a wallop. The ensemble’s razor-sharp precision is enhanced by jazzy interludes, lightly rumbling percussion motifs, and mesmerizing rhythms. Using only classical guitar, hand percussion, cello, and soprano saxophone/woodwinds, they effectively meld the music of ancient worlds and faraway places with a contemporary groove that enchants audiences of all ages.
Quarteto Nuevo pays homage to the rich and diverse scope of composers across styles and genres. You may hear works from the realms of world fusion, jazz, and classical genres, with arrangements of music by Leonard Bernstein, Chick Corea, Bob Dylan, Frank Zappa, Heitor Villa-Lobos, Egberto Gismonti, Astor Piazzolla, Satie, and Debussy. Their repertoire is simply incredible. Come for an evening of true musical craftsmanship, in the intimate setting of the University Center, the beautiful “little sister” of the Wildstein Center.
